A 25-year-old man, Olayinka Ogunshola, was on Tuesday docked for allegedly beating up his 60-year-old landlord into a state of coma.
Ogunshola appeared before Magistrate Taiwo Akanni of an Ojokoro Magistrates' Court on a two-count charge of assault and attempted murder.
The prosecutor, Insp Lugard Ahonle, told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 31 at No. 56, Claire Road, Ijaye, Lagos, at 8.45 p.m.
"Ogunshola had an argument with his landlord, one Mr Salau Salako, over house rent during which he beat him into coma," he said.
According to the prosecutor, the landlord is still receiving treatment at Orile Agege General Hospital, Lagos.
He said that the offences contravene Sections 171 and 228 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till July 8 for mention. (NAN).
