Reasons why Rappers fail in fulfilling their dreams.
I just wanted to share a few lines to everybody about something I've been thinking about lately.
Why do so many rappers fail at fulfilling their dream of getting signed or making a living off their music? I thought of a few reasons why and some quick tips on getting on the right track.
Reason 1. Its just a hobby!
If you're just writing songs when you feel like it, when you're chilling with your boys, free styling in a party, or just when you're bored that's a hobby. If you're serious about making a career off your music I suggest making time whenever you can to write more songs even if you have to skip a few nights from going out on weekends. Trust me your fans will thank you!
Reason 2. Not focused on the career.
If your thinking some Record label executive is going to "discover" you, you are going to wait a long long time. We always hear rap music on the radio and wonder how did that rapper get in that position? It's because they know how to market and sell themselves to the public and when you do that record labels take notice. The labels want someone who already has exposure and large amounts of fans. For you to get to this position you have to see that your hobby as your career and invest on it like a business, you must surely get to your destination.
Reason 3. Technical issue.
Another reason why rappers don't succeed is simply because they don't sound good. It's that simple. I know that rapping is a pretty complex subject, but the bottom line is that if you sound good rapping, you have a better chance of succeeding. It's funny that I keep on watching people who know everything about compound rhymes, metaphors, wordplay and so many other things, but when you hear them rap, they still can't sync in with the melody, they still can't count music and so on. People don't lie. You will eventually encounter haters, but don't look at the individual comments. Look at the general tone of your comments- is it positive, is it negative, what is the main issue these people are talking about. They might be right you know. Some rappers fail because they do not wish to understand that they don't sound good rapping and when somebody tells them this, they automatically call him a hater. No, listen to your listeners. Make sure that you're on point on the technical side of things. Don't fall from this cliff. Don't stay on one place. Seek improvement all the time.
Reason 4. Some people don't know what they really want.
If all you want to do is having all ladies and get money, Do that, you don't need a music career for that. Theirs so many other ways to make that happen, nothing wrong with that. If you ask a rapper who's been in the game for a while "why do you still rap?" most will tell you they do it for the fans! They enjoy the grind the traveling rocking shows left and right, signing autographs, getting stopped by fans everywhere they go to take pictures If you ask me that sounds exhausting just writing about it. I think thats why we see some rappers who don't last long. You hear about them one day and they're gone the next. Just know what you really want believe in yourself and work hard at it and everything will fall into place.
